EMS Drug Reference App
Built From Your Protocol
Generic drug apps give you textbook doses that may not match your standing orders. MedicDex pulls every drug, dose, concentration, and contraindication directly from your department's protocol PDF — so what you calculate is exactly what your medical director approved.
The Problem With Generic Drug Apps
There are plenty of drug reference apps for paramedics. The problem: they use generic textbook values, not your department's specific standing orders. Your protocol might use a different concentration, a different max dose, or have additional contraindications specific to your service area.
When there's a discrepancy between the app and your protocol, you have to go back to the binder anyway. That defeats the purpose.
How MedicDex Is Different
MedicDex doesn't have a generic drug database. It has your drug database — extracted automatically from your protocol PDF by AI. Every calculation is based on your formulary, your concentrations, your approved doses.
Your Protocol's Concentrations
mL draw-up is calculated using the vial concentration in your formulary — not a generic value that may not match what's on your truck.
Your Approved Doses
Initial dose, repeat dose, max dose — exactly as written in your protocol. No guessing whether the app matches your standing orders.
Your Contraindications
The contraindication list comes from your protocol text — including department-specific restrictions your medical director added.
Weight-Based Dosing
Enter patient weight in kg or lb. Get dose in mg/mcg AND the exact mL to draw. All weight-based calculations done instantly.
Indication Context
Each drug shows which clinical scenario it applies to — Pain Management, Cardiac Arrest, RSI — so you're always in the right context.
Recent Calculations
Last 8 drug calculations saved locally. Review what you drew up on the last call without re-entering everything.
What Drugs Are Included
Every drug in your department's protocol is included — automatically extracted when you upload your protocol PDF. Most departments have 50-120 medications. The Drug Editor in the admin panel lets you review and correct any doses the AI extracted before publishing to crews.
No Manual Data Entry
Other platforms require you to manually enter every drug, dose, and concentration. MedicDex's AI reads your protocol PDF and builds the entire formulary automatically in 45-90 minutes. Your administrator reviews the results and hits Publish.

What if the AI extracts a drug dose incorrectly?
The admin panel includes a Drug Editor where your administrator can review and correct every extracted dose before it goes live to crews. Nothing publishes without human review.
Can we add drugs that aren't in the protocol PDF?
Yes. The Drug Editor allows administrators to add, edit, or remove any drug entry manually.
Does it handle IV drip rates?
Yes. For continuous infusions like dopamine and epinephrine drips, the calculator handles weight-based mcg/kg/min dosing and converts to mL/hr drip rates.
