The Paramedic Drug Calculator
That Uses Your Protocol
Most drug calculator apps use generic textbook values. MedicDex calculates doses from your department's actual protocol — the same concentrations your pharmacy stocks, the same max doses your medical director approved.
What Makes It Different
Your Protocol's Concentrations
Doses and mL draw-ups are calculated from the vial concentrations in your department's formulary — not generic values that may not match what's on your truck.
mL Draw-Up Calculation
Enter patient weight, get the dose in mg or mcg AND the exact mL to draw from the vial. No mental math on a critical call.
Contraindications From Your Protocol
Contraindications displayed are pulled directly from your protocol text — not from a generic drug database that may not match your standing orders.
Pediatric and Adult Dosing
Weight-based calculations for both adult and pediatric patients. Broselow-compatible weight estimation for pediatric emergencies.
Works Offline
The entire drug table is cached locally. Calculate doses in a basement, rural field, or anywhere with no signal.
Drip Rate Calculator
Calculate IV drip rates for continuous infusions including dopamine, epinephrine, and other weight-based drips.
Drugs Included
MedicDex extracts every drug from your department's protocol PDF automatically. Typical departments have 50-100+ medications in their formulary. Common drugs include:
| Drug | Typical Use | Calculation Type |
|---|---|---|
| Epinephrine | Cardiac arrest, anaphylaxis | Fixed / weight-based |
| Fentanyl | Pain management | Weight-based (mcg/kg) |
| Ketamine | Analgesia, sedation, RSI | Weight-based (mg/kg) |
| Amiodarone | VF/VT, rhythm control | Fixed / weight-based |
| Adenosine | SVT | Weight-based |
| Midazolam | Seizure, sedation | Weight-based (mg/kg) |
| Succinylcholine | RSI | Weight-based (mg/kg) |
| Dopamine | Shock, bradycardia | Drip (mcg/kg/min) |
Every drug in your department's formulary is included — including drugs not listed here. The AI parser extracts all of them from your protocol PDF automatically.
How It Gets Set Up
There's no manual data entry. When your department uploads its protocol PDF to MedicDex, our AI reads every page and extracts every drug, dose, route, concentration, and contraindication automatically. A department administrator reviews the extracted data and publishes it — usually in under 4 hours total.

Does it work without internet?
Yes. The full drug table is cached locally after the first load. All calculations work offline — no signal needed.
What if my protocol has unusual concentrations?
The drug calculator uses the concentrations in your protocol. If your formulary uses a different concentration than standard, that's what the calculator uses. A Drug Editor in the admin panel lets administrators adjust any value.
Is it approved for clinical use?
MedicDex is a reference tool. It displays doses from your department's official protocol — the same protocol approved by your medical director. All clinical decisions remain with the licensed provider. Always verify against official standing orders.
How many drugs can it handle?
There's no limit. Most departments have 50-100 drugs extracted from their protocol. The calculator handles all of them.
